At the local level, 47 of 53 county board systems administer both mental health and alcohol and drug addiction services. Many providers are certified for both types of services and a significant percentage of consumers interact with providers in both systems. Prior to the Kasich Administration, these services were administered separately through the Ohio Departments of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS) and Mental Health (ODMH). In 2013, Governor Kasich consolidated these agencies into a single Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. The result has been to recognize and preserve what is unique in both systems while providing better services through integration.
