Approximately 1.3 million of Ohio’s 2.8 million children are enrolled in health and early childhood development programs. Ohio’s programs for children cut across multiple health and human services departments. These state agencies work together and with other child-caring stakeholders to ensure that children are born healthy, succeed in school, and transition into healthy and productive adults. The level of effort is considerable, particularly through the Ohio Departments of Education, Medicaid, Health, and Job and Family Services, which includes child care, child support, food and cash assistance, protective services, and foster care and adoption.
